Hey everyone! I feel like all I ever post about is food now LOL, but today I have yet another idea and I have to share!
One of my passions in life is healthy eating and finding ways to make junk food healthy. One of Americas favorite guilty pleaures is fast food, and so over the years I have not only found the healthiest fast food chains, but also what to order to achieve the most nutritious and caloric ‘bang for buck’.
It is no secret to those who know me that I am addicted to coffee- literally haha : ) Most of the time I limit my coffee consumption to the morning hours, but almost every time I go out shopping, I find myself getting a coffee at Starbucks. To keep this habit from becoming too unhealthy, I have a couple of tricks that I deploy to keep calories down while still enjoying my caffeine fix!
Mini Moos and Stevia
My first tip actually is good for the budget as well as limits artificial sweetener consumption and that would be to carry individual creamers and packets of stevia. I buy Land of Lakes individual creamers called ‘Mini Moos’ at Target’. Each creamer is 1 tsp. of half and half and 10 calories. I always have a handful of these and a couple stevia packets in my purse at all times. I almost always order either a grande coffee whether its iced or hot, and find that 3 mini moo creamers and 1 packet of stevia is perfect!
The 30 Calorie Latte
If I am looking for something sweet without splurging, I will order a Black Coffee with a splash of skim milk and Sugar Free Flavored Syrup of choice. (This works with both iced and hot coffee). I didn’t know this until a couple of years ago, but the typical latte you order from any coffee shop is mostly milk and sugar and a shot or two of espresso. While this tastes super yummy, the calories add up really fast. What I found tastes just as yummy is ordering a black coffee with a splash of skim, whole, or soy milk and your favorite sugar free syrup. I never specify how many pumps of the syrup, the baristas always know what to do, though the one time I was asked, I told them however much it takes to make it sweet, and it was perfect.
The Super Skinny Mocha
Black Coffee with Sugar Free Mocha Syrup and a splash of skim milk, or 2 mini moo creamers. I have found that the skinny mocha syrup is the best in terms of not having the signature splenda flavor, not to mention that not as much milk is needed because the mocha syrup is super rich by itself.
Tea at Starbucks?
My last tip is to order their plain chai tea and either add your own mini moos and stevia or ask for their skinny vanilla syrup and a splash of milk- nom!
I hope I have helped you in your quest to further ‘skinny-fy’ your Starbucks, and if you try any of them, make sure to tag me on Twitter or Instagram @sequintheday! Also, if you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below, I am always open to trying something new : ) Lastly, if you have any restaurants you want me to do next, let me know!
